Google Business Profile Optimization

Maximize your Google Business Profile visibility. Optimize your listing to appear in local pack results and Google Maps searches.

The actual SEO process

8 steps. No mystery. No confusion.

Figure out how you make money

Before touching your website: which jobs are profitable? Which calls do you want more of? How do people find you now? If I don't know what a good lead looks like, SEO turns into guesswork.

Make sure leads can be tracked

GA4 and Search Console, plus form tracking and basic lead tracking events, so we can see which enquiries came from Google. If I can't see leads turning into money, everything else is noise.

Fix what quietly costs you leads

Pages that load too slow, confusing service descriptions, missing trust signals, contact info buried or inconsistent. A small fix here often produces more revenue than months of "content."

Go after searches that mean business

Emergency and high-intent searches, location-specific searches, problem-based searches. I'd rather rank for 10 keywords that produce calls than 1,000 that don't.

Build pages people actually want to read

Service pages that answer real buyer questions, location pages that prove you're actually local, content that reduces doubt and gets the phone ringing.

Make Google trust you more

Cleaning up citations, strengthening your Google Business Profile, earning real links and mentions. No tricks, shortcuts or spam.

Watch what turns into money

Rankings get checked and traffic gets monitored, but calls and booked jobs matter most. If something brings the wrong leads, I adjust. If something works, I double down.

Straight talk

No fluff reports. "This page is working, let's expand it." "These calls aren't closing, intake needs fixing." "This keyword looks good but isn't worth the effort." If something isn't paying off, I say it.

Who you're hiring

Why should you trust me?

My agency was a Google ActΓvate success story.

I didn't learn SEO from a blog. I've worked in digital marketing for 17 years, 15 of them running my own agency. Google featured that agency, KREAKTIVE, in a Google ActΓvate story (screenshot, Oct 2026) after I took their ActΓvate digital marketing course. I moved to Colorado Springs in 2023 and brought KREAKTIVE with me (it operated as Digital Marketing Services until 2026). Today I use the same skills to get Colorado small businesses found on Google and AI search.

Before you hire anyone

GBP optimization red flags

Optimizing your Google Business Profile sounds simple, but doing it right takes ongoing work, not a one-time setup. Too many providers charge you monthly for work they finished in the first week. Before you hire someone, look for these:

They fill in your profile and call it done

Adding your hours, phone number, and address is step one, not the whole service. Ask: "What do you do in month two?" If the answer is vague, they're charging you monthly for a one-time task.

"We can get you 50 reviews fast"

Ask how. Fake reviews, paid reviews, or review-swapping schemes violate Google's rules. One crackdown and your entire listing can disappear. Real review growth takes a real strategy.

Your profile hasn't been updated in weeks

Log into your Google Business Profile and check when the last post was published. If you're paying someone monthly and there are no recent posts, photos, or updates, you're paying for nothing.

They never tested different categories

The categories on your listing directly control what searches you appear for. Ask: "Have you tested different categories to see which ones bring more calls?" If they set it once and forgot it, you might be invisible for your most profitable searches.

Your listing has no recent photos

Scroll through your competitor's Google listing and count their photos. Now count yours. Listings with fresh, quality photos get more clicks. If your provider never mentions photos, your listing looks abandoned next to theirs.

Ask: "What exactly did you do this month?"

If the answer is vague or they struggle to list specific actions, you're paying for maintenance that isn't happening. A good provider should be able to tell you every change they made and why.

They never show you how many calls you got

Google tracks how many people called you, asked for directions, or clicked to your website directly from your listing. If your provider never shares these numbers, they can't prove their work is worth what you're paying.

Nobody is watching your listing for changes

Anyone can suggest edits to your Google listing, and Google sometimes accepts them automatically. Your hours could be wrong, your phone number could change, or a competitor could add misleading info. If nobody is monitoring for this, it's a ticking time bomb.

Problems I solve every day

Sound familiar?

“I set up my Google Business Profile but it doesn't seem to do anything”

Setting it up is just the beginning. An unoptimized listing is like an unlocked store with the lights off. Here's how I'll turn it into your best lead source:

  • Optimize every field: categories, services, attributes, description, and products
  • Launch a weekly posting schedule so Google sees your listing is active
  • Set up a photo strategy that makes your listing stand out against competitors
  • Configure tracking so you can see exactly how many calls and visits come from your listing

“I'm paying someone to manage it but nothing has changed”

Ask them what they did last month. If they can't give you a specific list, you're paying for nothing. Here's what real GBP management looks like:

  • Weekly posts, fresh photos, and Q&A management that keeps your listing active
  • Category testing to find the combination that brings the most calls
  • Review response strategy that builds trust with potential customers
  • Monthly reports showing calls, direction requests, and website clicks from your listing

“Someone changed information on my listing and I didn't even know”

This happens all the time. Anyone can suggest edits to your listing, and Google sometimes accepts them without telling you. Here's how I prevent that:

  • Set up monitoring so unauthorized changes get caught immediately
  • Verify and lock down your listing information to reduce unwanted edits
  • Regularly audit your listing against competitors to spot issues early
  • Keep your information accurate across all connected platforms so Google trusts your data

My tools

The tools I pay for, and the free ones from Google

I pay for both Semrush and Ahrefs and compare them, because their data sometimes really differ. I use Local Falcon for grid scans: one search, checked from many points across a service area, because when you search for your own business you'll often rank #1 simply because Google knows where you're searching from. I also pay for BrightLocal and Whitespark, two local SEO tools.

The free ones matter just as much. Semrush positions are modelled, so I confirm movement in Google Search Console before I quote a number. GA4 shows what visitors do, and PageSpeed Insights measures speed. I have no affiliate deal with any of these companies.

Common questions

Google Business Profile FAQs

Quick answers to help you decide.

GBP optimization is included in my SEO packages (Search Visibility at $1,500/month and Search Visibility Pro at $2,800/month). I don't offer it as a standalone service because a well-optimized profile without the SEO foundation behind it rarely produces lasting results. The profile is one piece of local visibility, not the whole picture.

Most businesses see movement within 30 to 60 days. Getting into the top 3 map results depends on your competition, how established your listing is, and how many reviews you have. Some clients crack the map pack in 6 weeks. Others in competitive markets take 3 to 4 months. I'll give you an honest timeline after reviewing your specific market.

Very. Reviews affect both your map pack ranking and whether people actually click on your listing. Google considers review quantity, recency, and how you respond to them. I help you build a review strategy that generates consistent, genuine reviews from real customers. No fake reviews, no buying reviews. That'll get your listing suspended.

Yes. Each location gets its own optimized profile with location-specific photos, descriptions, posts, and review management. The strategy changes depending on whether your locations serve overlapping service areas or distinct markets. I've managed multi-location profiles across different states.

Your primary category is the most important ranking factor you directly control. I research which categories your top-ranking competitors use, cross-reference with what Google actually supports, and select the combination that matches your real services. Getting this wrong tanks your visibility for the searches that matter most.

GBP optimization focuses specifically on your Google Maps listing: categories, photos, posts, reviews, Q&A. Local SEO is broader and includes your website, citations across directories, local content, and backlinks from local sources. Both work together. A strong profile without a strong website doesn't hold top positions for long.
